10 Things I Want to Do By the End of My Summer:
(D-Day is August 26th, when school starts again :))

  1. Read the stack of books by my bed. A handful of the titles include the following:

    • The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Junot Diaz – book-club book
    • Feel, Matthew Elliot – new devo book, great so far
    • The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Shaffer & Barrows – comes highly recommended
    • The rest of The City of Ember series – just taught the first book for summer school. I found the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th one at Half-Price Books for just a few dollars. :) Yes, they’re middle school level but sooo charming.
    • Handmade Nation, Levine and Heimerl – a book by authors of one of my favorite blogs to follow. Oh-so-dorky, I know. I have crafting in my blood. You should see the things my mom has and can make.
  2. Complete Troy’s OSU-inspired crocheted blanket…that I started in December. Ha. And make a custom painting for his oh-so-bare apartment. :)
  3. Lose 5lbs…or more. Not against that concept either.
  4. Get on a regular sleep schedule. Must be getting at least 7 hours of sleep (in a row) before school starts again.
  5. Give up Diet Coke. For a year, I think. The addiction is out of control!
  6. See the following movies:

  7. Run Dublin’s Irish Festival 4-miler with this lovely.
  8. Vacation with the family in the mountains of New York and finally see my wonderful sister. We’ll be staying on Lake George, meaning gorgeousness.
  9. Prepare for the school year. Taking over yearbook class this year. Yikes.
  10. Get to a Reds’ game. I can’t believe we haven’t seen one yet! Only went to Indians’ game thus far. Man, sadness.

Have a splendid week!

I’ve always loved everything Lewis Carroll wrote, especially Through the Looking Glass, and his most famous, Alice in Wonderland. Animated movie aside, the actual story of Alice in Wonderland is very charming and magical. All the adjectives that swirled around our imaginations as children – the shiny appeal and attention grabbers, of just certain things. Alice, the Cheshire Cat, the Dodo, and, of course, the White Rabbit – I loved them. Yet, the story was always slightly disturbing to me as a kid. Certain characters were creepy and there was an offset tone of…well, doom. Many criticized that the movie didn’t have the warm, feel-good moralities as other animated flicks (but that’s a whole other ball of wax…) and some even thought that the author and animators must have been “tripping out” on some…er…certain ingredients?? :)

REGARDLESS, for it’s strangeness and uniqueness, I may actually enjoy a Tim Burton film as he is taking on ALICE! Read the story here. The casting is completely appropriate and, though, it will be bizarre, quirky, and undoubtedly disturbing, I am looking forward to seeing the story I loved so much come to life.
